Let’s talk food!
It’s been such an interesting time, to say the least. Grocery shopping is an entirely new experience now.
Since going vegan I have been diligently meal planning and creating shopping lists for each week. It’s been months since I’ve questioned what’s for dinner only hours before dinner time.
Planning my week out in advanced has helped me tremendously with switching to a vegan diet as well as ensured that we have all the ingredients for our dinners each night and cut down our grocery bill.
Well, as we all know, things changed fast. When I started to realize just how serious covid-19 is, I decided it was time to stock my shelves. I have worked hard in the past months to work through our inventory and not carry any excess food. I thought it was a good idea but I’m realizing that some back stock in the cupboards is good.
Now, before I get attacked for “promoting” food stocking, I think it’s important to understand the difference between stocking up and hoarding.
Hoarding items is buying a store out of a particular item that you deem will be desirable. Stocking up, is buying a little bit of extra of each item to help you last longer so you’re able to grocery shop less frequently.
This odd time we’re living in has me thinking of disaster preparation of any kind and what that preparation looks like for our family. Always having certain items on hand like black beans, chickpeas, lentils, pasta, crushed tomatoes, frozen vegetables & fruit, bottled water, vegetable stock, flour, yeast, salt, sugar & apparently a heck of a lot of toilet paper 🧻?etc. Are just some of the items I think any person should have on hand at any time.
We were able to start to see this pandemic coming. But a natural disaster wouldn’t give us that time to storm the grocery stores for all the paper products they have. I’m thinking a post on how to be prepared for a crisis at any given time is to come… is there any 1 item you feel you need to have on hand always now that we’ve been living through this crisis?
