Crispy BBQ Cauliflower Wings
It all started with Super Bowl…but don’t all good food stories start that way? February 2nd 2020 was when the San Fransisco 49’ers went to the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs and I made crispy bbq cauliflower wings. Unfortunately for my
husband and the rest of San Fran, they were defeated in the last quarter by the chiefs. But, fortunately for myself, my crispy BBQ Cauliflower Wings were a giant win!
The build up to the Super Bowl was big this year since my husband’s team was playing. Becoming predominantly plant based 2 months before caused snackage to be a big topic before the game. We have followed a recipe for cauliflower bites many a times but I was looking for something a little less cauliflower-y and a little more chick’n-y. These cauliflower wings were the 💣 .com. Like, seriously.
This recipe is super easy, tasty and healthy. You can really spice it up in whichever way tickles your tastebuds. Not only that, its’ versatile. We use this recipe as our replacement for wings and can add any sauce of all flavours to it. We also use this recipe for our Vegan Teriyaki Rice Bowls.
.
So… Let’s get started!
.
1.Preheat your oven to 400ºF and line a medium sized baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. To prepare the cauliflower you want to cut and break it into smaller pieces (think two-bite or bite size) and set aside.
3. In a medium bowl mix your flour and non-dairy milk to make a paste. In a separate bowl, mix your bread crumbs and spices.
4. You want to coat your cauliflower pieces in the flour mixture. Allow excess to fall off before coating in the bread crumb mix.
5. Spread cauliflower evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes. Once soft enough for a fork to slide through easily remove from oven.
6. Toss the baked cauliflower in a large bowl with your favourite vegan sauce {we recommend Sweet Baby Rays Original BBQ sauce or you can try my Chilli Teriyaki recipe} and enjoy!
.
We ended up pairing it with leftover garlic & cilantro sauce we had for dinner the Friday before. The pairing was a match made in heaven so you most definitely should check the recipe on This Savory Vegan blog post on Cauliflower Taco Bowls (I’d also give the taco bowls a taste too!)
