Why Veganism?
So, why did we switch to a whole foods plant based diet?
There are many reasons why my husband and I decided to switch our diets. I started to ask myself why do I need animal bi-products in my life? …I couldn’t come up with valid reasoning.
Every point I thought of I could rebuttal.
It’s been proven time and time again. WFPB diets can reverse health problems. Not just bandage it like medications do.
My pregnancy and postpartum journey have been quite taxing on my body and I’m slow to recover.
Struggling to loose weight, inflammation, joint pain, headaches, fatigue, recovery, mental stability – these are all things that I suffered from that a WFPB diet can fix. I also learned that the arthritis I was diagnosed with can also be reversed or the symptoms become manageable or almost non existent. But a WFPB diet also aids and can reverse other sicknesses & diseases. Auto immune diseases, type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, arthritis, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety… the list is endless.
But there’s the other factors that come into play. Our world is in a crisis. Global warming is happening at a rate we can’t even fathom and animal farming is the number one polluter. Not cars, not factories, not straws, it’s the food we eat. It’s killing not only us, but the innocent animals and the planet we are all living on.
I also started to ask myself why do I need to hurt another living being just to satisfy my taste buds?
I have been amazed with how it’s turned out. I was so worried, some of my concerned thoughts are below:
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐞𝐚𝐭? – The most delicious food ever!
𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬! – that’s because I didn’t know how to cook them, flavour them or what to accompany them with. But I actually DO like vegetables.
𝗪𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐈 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡, 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲? – 100%. My meals are big, filling & delicious!
𝐈𝐦 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡. – nope! I can eat everything you eat! I actually enjoy pizza more now. I enjoy my cauliflower wings waaay more (I don’t have to picture the chicken it came from or see little hairs still on the wing 🤢
𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐞! – I think this is the most important point. I don’t have too! If I want to eat cheese I can. There’s not some club I’m going to be banished from! Any change is good change. People seem to think it’s all or nothing which is so bizarre to me. Eat what you want and do what you can. If it’s meatless Monday, go for it. If it’s cutting everything out except cheese then do it. No one is thinking your not doing enough or what’s the point.
I had to teach myself how to grocery shop again. I had to teach myself how to cook and meal prep again. I had to open my mind to new flavours and new techniques in the kitchen. I’ve had to have patience in the learning process as I figure out balanced meals. Every step has been a new challenge. I’ve had to unlearn everything I’ve been taught my entire life and then learn all new info. It’s been so rewarding and although I was unsure when I began this journey what my future would look like, I can’t ever imagine going back to consuming animal bi-products.
